Yoncé

As most of you may know by now, Beyoncé just smacked the whole world right across the face and dropped a visual album with 14 songs and 17 ready-made music videos to accompany it... and I just couldn't stop myself from writing about it. Beyoncé is the quintessential woman; the epitome of female role models. Her name carries connotations of power, command, and dominance - even Obama claims she is the "perfect role model" for his daughters! The fact that her surprise album is able to dominate the charts, and forced iTunes to crash, without any promotions or prior notice WHATSOEVER, further proves that she really is Queen Bey.

Basically.
Her self-titled album contains such a spectrum of themes - as a face of female empowerment, she celebrates the multifaceted nature of womanhood. One of my favorite videos so far is "Pretty Hurts", which I think sends such an important message to not only girls, but everyone, everywhere. The song and video incapsulates the frustration over the facade women are forced to upkeep from the expectations of society and the media; this twisted idea of "perfection" that girls struggle to achieve, and that the media praises with the line: "Perfection is the disease of the nation... It's your soul that needs surgery." It's a really moving music video, and the fact that this message is coming from the immaculate Beyoncé makes it even more exceptional.

With the remainder of the album, Beyoncé continues to play her fierce, flawless self, and features cameos by Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, and Chanel Iman - the top dogs in the model world (In my terribly biased opinion). Prepare your eyes and ears for death by Yoncé.

Have a wonderful weekend, and good luck to anybody sitting their finals! (Don't be distracted by Beyoncé!)

One of my favorite aspects of winter fashion is boots. Sure, you could wear them in the summer but  they just don't have the same double whammy of simultaneously keeping your feet warm. There's a vast variety of boots, especially with the recent trend of cut-out's á la Balenciaga's The Ceinture, as well as the classic Chelsea boots. Personally, I really like the appeal of chunky boots - they create the illusion that I'm the height of the average person. However, if you're on the pursuit for a traditional boot with a twist, check out TBA Shoes (yes, that's the brand name). TBA recently launched a line of boots in oil-slick, that emanates a fresh gleam for the quintessential urban chick. Above are some boots in no particular order, that caught my eye on Solestruck. Click on the captions to be directed to the website for more details, and let me know what you think!

Hope you're all keeping warm!

Tis' the season

If you're like me, most likely you're racking your brains out thinking of unique Christmas gifts for your friends and family. I'm an advocate for sentimental, meaningful gifts, which is always much more demanding to execute, so to fuel your imagination, here are some novel accessories that would add quirk to anyone's stocking.

Socks

Ice Cream Socks
Alien Socks

$h!T **** Socks

EMOJI SOCKS

HUF Socks (Mens)

HUF Socks multicolor (mens)

Beanies

Fashion Killa
The Mob Boss
Straight Outta .com/pton

Band Tees

Biggie Smalls

Daft Punk

Drake
YEEZUS
The Strokes
The Black Keys
Tame Impala
The XX
The Arctic Monkeys (or well... Alex Turner)
Bastille
These are just some prompts based off what I would probably get my friends or appreciate receiving (the key is to get their favorite band on a tee). However, no gift is complete without a bona fide card! Show some love guys - DIY a Christmas card from collaging all your shared memories and write a saccharine, cringe-worthy message to wish them "Merry Christmas". If these gifts exceed your budget, don't even stress! The best gifts I've ever received came from the heart, like a mixtape, a hand-picked selection of movies and books, but most importantly a CARD!

Christmas is all about giving love, and receiving it in return.

Good luck Christmas shopping!

Metric

As my local readers may know, last weekend witnessed the masses of hipsters emerging from their underground cafes and congregating at the weekend festival, Clockenflap. This year marks my third attendance to arguably one of the best weekends HK is blessed with - hundreds of bodies being immersed in sunlight and strobe lights with the mutual intent of undulating (or fist pumping) to the indie likes of Metric, The 1975, Tegan & Sara, Gold Panda, Franz Ferdinand etc etc etc...

Clockenflap also gives me an excuse to break out my cherished UNIF gear, since it's marginally harder to look inconspicuous wearing a Bummer Poncho on any other normal day. I didn't manage to get any clear outfit photos, fortunately Polyvore has saved the day with recreations of them. Given the fluctuating temperatures, layering was definitely key for the weekend alongside cozy beanies and over-worn sneakers. To top it off, my favorite winter ritual of winged eyeliner and berry lips made an appearance to commemorate the occasion.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

Sorry I've been on hiatus for a (very long) while, I've been taking some time off to recover from my leg injury and contemplate the direction of my life (in other words: prospective universities, please accept me). To make amends, here is a playlist of some tracks that I've been listening to as Autumn drips away, and when I'm in need of background music for morning commutes.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Interlude

IMG_4725

Eek! Has it been nearly a month? Apologies for being MIA, I guess it's become an immutable habit... but with reason! Behind the screen, I've actually fractured my patella (a.k.a. kneecap), so I'm currently hobbling around with crutches looking a little less alluring than Smeagol on janitor duty. Alas, no outfit posts for the time being, which is a bummer because I've been planning to team up with a certain photographer to amp up my OOTD's. But no worries, I will find another way to entertain the masses in the meantime!

A little update - I chopped off my hair! Although it's not as bold as a pixie-cut or such, this is the shortest it's been since... 2007? Back in the days of bad hair decisions and taking waaaay too many embarrassing pictures. It's a little strange having half of my hair gone, but it's refreshing for something new every once in a while, and long hair is becoming a little over-rated.

Anyways, there's a monster typhoon on the horizon, so for fellow HK readers, stay safe and keep your fingers crossed for an extended weekend!
